(Dangerous Goods shipments packed prior to 31 Dec 2010 using the old Packing Instruction May be shipped until 31 Mar h 2011. How do we make the DGD and what date must we put?)
Q.
Dangerous Goods packed prior to 31 Dec mber 2010 using the Packing Instructions referred to in the 51st Edition May be shipped until 31 Mar h 2011. For LTD QTY, do we have to enter the words LTD QTY in the Authorization column of the DGD, and what date should we use for the DGD? Also, for LTD QTY shipments, do we need to Mar the package LTD QTY and also show the Diamond shaped Mar ing with the letter Y? (31 Jan 11)
A.
The transport of dangerous goods rests much on mutual trust. Every member of the supply chain must adhere to the rules to achieve safety. As long as the packages are prepared prior to 31 Dec mber 2010, the shipper May follow the old packing instructions stipulated in the 51st Edition DGR.

A special transition period is granted and the shipper May ship such packages until 31 Mar h 2011. This rule does not apply to packages prepared in 2011 which must adhere to the rules contained in the 52nd Edition. The date of the DGR must be the date when the DGD was actually prepared therefore the date would be a date between 1 Jan ary and 31 Mar h 2011.

Since the old Packing Instruction is used, the DGD must show the old PI number. In case of LTD QTY, the Authorization column must show the letters LTD QTY. The LTD QTY packages must bear the letters LTD QTY either printed, embossed, stamped or written. It must not show the new Diamond shaped Mar ing with the letter Y as this Mar ing is for LTD QTY packages prepared in 2011.
