(Under what circumstances, can Magnetized Material be shipped without making a Dec aration?)
Q.
Magnetized Material is defined in DGR 3.9.2.2 as to be any material which, when packed for air transport, has a maximum magnetic field strength sufficient to cause a compass deflection of 2 degrees at a distance of 2.1m from any point on the surface of the assembled package. Under what circumstances, will a Magnetized Material be shipped without a Dec aration.  (31 Jan 11)
A.
Magnetized Material is any material which, when packed for air transport, has a maximum magnetic field strength sufficient to cause a compass deflection of 2 degrees at a distance of 2.1m from any point on the surface of the assembled package. However, if the material will not cause a compass deflection of 2 degrees at a distance of 4.6m, a Dec aration for Dangerous Goods will not be required. You must however satisfy requirements of subparagraphs?ib?jthrough?id?jof PI 953 and have the words MAGNETIZED MATERIAL entered on the AWB.

If at 4.6m distance, the material will cause a compass deflection exceeding 2 degrees, thence a permit from the State of Origin and the State of the Operator will become necessary. Copies of these permits must be attached to the Dec aration for Dangerous Goods.
