(A consignee finds the shipment of dangerous goods consigned had an irregularity. Does the consignee have a duty to report irregularities of dangerous goods shipments?)
Q.
The commodity imported carried a UN number and was classified as dangerous goods. The shipment had not been treated as dangerous goods. Does the consignee have an obligation to report such irregularity to the States concerned? (30 Jun 11)
A.
Yes, the consignee or anyone who is a member of the supply chain has the duty to report irregularities.

All parties to the supply chain have an obligation to report anything that is out of the norm, i.e., irregularities. This includes the shipper, the cargo agent, the forwarder, the ground handling agent, the carrier, the customs broker and the consignee.
