DGR 5.0.2.11 (h) states: There is no need to take into account in the calculation of Q value for ?gthose with the same UN number, packing group and physical state, provided they are the only dangerous goods in the package and the total net quantity does not exceed the maximum net quantity shown in the List of Dangerous Goods?h.
When we shipped UN 1263 Paint and UN 1263 Paint related material, all packed in one, both with the same PG and same physical state, and entered the Q value on the DGD, the airline refused acceptance and said we must erase the Q value. Another all packed in one shipment containing UN 1992 Flammable liquid, n.o.s. (Naphta/Xylene) and UN 1992 Flammable liquid, n.o.s. (Isopropanol solution) with a Q value, again received the same denial. If we enter a Q value which is not needed, does that construe reasons for denial of acceptance? (30 Jun 11)

The two all packed in one shipments that you mentioned fall under this rule, and therefore the Q value is not needed. However, even if you have done the Q calculation and entered the Q value on the DGD, the airline should not have rejected the shipment.
Unless the regulation says: ?gQ value must not be calculated?h or ?gQ value must not be entered?h, there is nothing wrong in showing the Q value on the DGD. What a shipper is always and actually doing is comparing the MAX quantity shown on the blue pages with the NET quantity he is shipping, thus making a Q calculation not on paper but mentally.
The airline who stated to erase the Q value entry is incorrect and appears unable to realize the meaning of the rules.
