(Live dog and Free Air Volume)
Q.
We intend to load 5 domestic dogs each weighing 20 kg in 5 Sep rate cages. What will be the necessary Free Air Volume? The equipment is a B747-400 from Narita to London with a flight time of about 13 hours. (6 Mar 04)
A.
Unless the actual aircraft specification data can be inspected, an accurate response cannot be made but to load a 20 kg dog, you will need a Free Air Volume of about 0.5 cubic meters. Consequently, for safety purpose, you will need a minimum of 3 cubic meter free air volume for all 5 dogs. Avoid placing the cages near the air duct.
