(The name of the commodity shown on the CARGO MANIFEST is slightly different from the name of the commodity shown on the AWB. Is it permissible?)
Q.
The name of the commodity shown on the AWB is not duplicated on the CARGO MANIFEST and there is a slight difference. Is there a need for correction? (30 Jun 11)
A.
What do you exactly mean by ?gslight difference?h? Even the difference is slight, a difference means the names do not agree with each other. A dog cannot be shown as a cat. A brown dog and a black dog are two different dogs. It means that the cargo had been switched. A switch of cargo is a grave matter from a security standpoint. Unless that cargo is cleared through security, it remains a possible hazard.

The AWB is a transportation contract concluded between the shipper and the carrier. The contract for carriage (AWB) also serves as proof to apply for an SCR rate. For instance, if the AWB is Dec ared as Machinery, it cannot receive the benefit of a SCR available for Sewing Machine. If a Copying Machine is Dec ared as Sewing Machine on the AWB it is fraud. The name of the commodity entered on the AWB must be as accurate as possible. This is a common rule for any business transaction. Even a slight difference should not be permitted.

In case of House Shipments, the House AWB is the Contract for Carriage concluded between the House Shipper and the Consolidator. The name of the commodity must be as accurate as possible. Even slight, a difference cannot be permitted. The Consolidator and the Airline will conclude a contract which is the Master AWB which would most likely show the words: ?gConsolidated Shipment as per attached House Manifest?h. The name of the commodity on the attached House Manifest should mirror the names of the commodities found on the House AWB.

A Cargo Manifest is a vital official document for clearing the aircraft for arrival/departure along with the Passenger Manifest and the General Dec aration. The Cargo Manifest loaded on the aircraft must be a mirror copy of the AWBs. It is hard to understand why the name of the commodity of the AWB should not appear intact on the Cargo Manifest. The name of the commodity should remain the same. There must be something seriously wrong with your procedures.
