A.
Packing Instruction PI 918 applies to cells and batteries containing lithium in any form, including lithium polymer and lithium ion cells and batteries when contained in equipment. The sentence which read: ?gThe equipment and the package of lithium cells or batteries must be overpacked?h does not mean to overpack the 1G or 4G outer packagings, but it merely ensures to have the equipment which May be either wrapped or contained in an inner packaging and the other inner packaging containing the cells or batteries are both contained in the 1G or 4G outer packaging. Gross mass 5 kg for passenger aircraft and gross mass 35 kg for cargo aircraft stands for each 1G or 4G package. If a 4G package weighs 30 kg. gross, it is within the limits of PI 918 for a CAO. The 4G must meet a PG II performance standards, and inside the 4G, the equipment and the cells or batteries are Sep rately and securely packed.
