(Medical care for passenger on board)
Q.
What are the items permitted in the term: ?gto provide medical aid to a patient during flight?h as spelled out in DGR 1.2.3 (a)? May a breathing equipment with non-spillable battery be included in this definition?  (1 Dec 03)
A.
DGR 1.2.3 (a) is worded as follows: ?gplaced on board with the approval of the operator to provide medical aid to a patient during flight,?h and further shows a Note stating: ?gFor the dangerous goods passengers are permitted to carry as medical aid see 2.3.2 to 2.3.5.?h

While the words ?gdangerous goods?h May be expanded to include ?gmedical care equipment?h beside ?gmedicines?h, ?gdangerous goods?h mentioned in this paragraph is not intended to include medical equipment but is meant to cover pills, ointments, medicines for injections, and the like. Breathing equipment would rather be an expanded interpretation of this paragraph. However, if the airline Dec des that a breathing equipment with a non-spillable battery May be carried under the interpretation of this paragraph, that will be the prerogative of that airline. From a common understanding, such passenger requiring breathing equipment would not be encouraged to travel.
