(Why doesn?ft Europe recognize ID 8000 Consumer Commodity)
Q.
Why is that when shipping ID8000 Consumer Commodity to Europe, we are asked to identify each dangerous goods contained in the Consumer Commodity? (13 Dec 03)
A.
The ADR which governs international carriage of dangerous goods over road, and the RID which governs international carriage of dangerous goods over rail, both of which are applicable in areas like Europe where borders can be crossed over road and/or rail, do not recognize the ID 8000 definition although it is an ICAO TI rule. However when ID8000 are moving from the manufacturer to the airport for international air carriage or when moving arriving ID8000 from the airport to its final destination, ID8000 can move as ID8000. When moving ID8000 anew from one location to another within Europe, each individual dangerous goods within the ID8000 must be identified with individual UN numbers and corresponding proper shipping names. The UN Committee of Experts (CoE) is working to align differing rules of each UN components.
