(DG in Excepted Quantities and LTD QTY in one outer package)
Q.
Is a shipper authorized to pack Dangerous Goods in Excepted Quantities (DGR 2.7) and Dangerous Goods in Limited Quantities (DGR 2.8) in the same outer packaging? (6 Mar 04)
A.
No, the shipper must not pack dangerous goods under DGR 2.7 and dangerous goods under DGR 2.8 in the same outer packaging. DGR 2.7.8.11 clearly state ?gA package containing dangerous goods in excepted quantities must not contain other dangerous goods that require a Shipper?fs Dec aration?h. When using the ?gAll packed in one ?c?c?h procedure defined in 2.7.8.6 through 2.7.8.8, 5.0.2.11 and 5.0.3.2, it is made clear that dangerous goods in each category, i.e. excepted quantity, limited quantity, normal quantity for passenger aircraft, and normal quantity for CAO must not be intermixed into the same outer packaging. Excepted quantity must be grouped together with excepted quantity, limited with limited, passenger PI with passenger PI, CAO PI with CAO PI. As explained, there are three check points to complete an ?gAll packed in one ?c?c?h situation, i.e. (1) the substances must not react dangerously with each other (segregation per Table 9.3.A), (2) that the result of the ?gQ?h calculation will not exceed 1.0, and (3) that the outer packaging selected must be commonly authorized with each Packing Instruction.
