(Handwritten UN Specification Mar ings)
Q.
I have heard that the UN Specification Mar ing must not be hand-written. Where in the Dangerous Goods Regulations does it so say. (27 Feb 05)
A.
In the Note immediately following Paragraph 6.0.4.1 Applicability in the DGR 46th Edition, it says: ?gUN specification packaging Mar ing must be printed or embossed directly on the package. Handwritten specification Mar ing is not acceptable.?h There is a finger symbol on the Mar in meaning that this restriction had been added by IATA. As the note contains the word ?gmust?h, non-compliance to this Note May result to rejection of the shipment at time of acceptance. This note had been added on the simple reason that if a package had been approved by a competent packaging testing authority, the resultant UN specification Mar ing simply would not be handwritten. LAN Chile has added in their Variation LA-13 that they will not accept packages with a handwritten specification Mar ing or the Mar ing is affixed by means of a sheet of paper or label bearing these Mar ings. ?@
