(Need guidance in preparing DGD, marking and labelling of Radioactive Material in Overpack.)
Q.
We have a shipment of Radioactive Material,
Package 1: UN2916, Ir-192, Special Form, II-Yellow, Activity 413 GBq, TI-0.6, permissible gross weight =55kg.
Package 2: UN2916, Ir-192, Special Form, II-Yellow, Activity 489 GBq, TI-0.7, permissible gross weight =76kg.
We want to ship these two packages in a closed overpack.
The combined TI of the overpack becomes TI 1.3 (TI 0.6 + TI 0.7) and the Category of the Overpack becomes III-Yellow per Table 10.3.C.
The overpack measures 100cm x 60cm x 60cm and its permissible gross weight is 131 kg (55kg + 76kg).
Please guide us how to prepare the DGD, the marking and the labelling.  (31 Jul 22)
A.
You will produce the required DGD for the shipment as follows;
UN2916 // Radioactive Material, Type B(U) package//7//Ir-192, Special Form, 1 Type B(U) package x 413 GBq//II-Yellow, TI 0.6//Type B(U) package certificate number//
UN2916 // Radioactive Material, Type B(U) package//7//Ir-192, Special Form, 1 Type B(U) package x 489 GBq//II-Yellow, TI 0.7//Type B(U)package certificate number//
Overpack used//III-Yellow, Dim. 100x60x60 cm//

Marking will be placed as per 10.7.1.4.1
a) The word “OVERPACK”
b) UN number, proper shipping name, name and address of shipper and consignee
c) Permissible gross weight 131kg

Two Category III-Yellow labels will be affixed on opposite surface of the Overpack. Marking on the III-Yellow label will be:
a) Contents: Ir-192
b) Activity: 902 GB
c) TI 1.3
