(How do you read Table 3.6.C?)
Q.
Table 3,6,C had always been a mystery. Kindly help us understand Table 3.6.C. (31 Jul 22)
A.
Table 3.6.C “Vapour Inhalation Hazard Diagram” is a visual explanation of Table 3.6.B “Vapour Inhalation Hazard”. Vapour magnitude (V) is taken on the horizontal axis, and Inhalation Toxicity (LC50) is taken on the vertical axis. For PG I, a diagonal line starts at (V) 10mL/m3 (horizontal axis) and rise up to a saturation point of 1000 mL/m3. The whole area fenced in qualifies for PG I. Where V is 1 another diagonal line starts to climb and reaches a saturation point at 3000 mL/m3.

This slim area qualifies for PG II. And finally a third line starts climbing from (V) 0.2 and reaches a saturation point at 5000 mL/m3. This very slim area qualifies for PG III. Beyond PG III on the further left is the “Not dangerous for transport” zone. Knowing data of Inhalation Toxiity (LC50) expressed in mL/m3, and “V” expressed in mL/m3, you will be able to determine the PG level by applying the diagram of Tabel 3.6.C.
