(What is GROSS WEIGHT and NET WEIGHT.)
Q.
We get sometimes mixed up with the definitions of GROSS WEIGHT and NET WEIGHT. Kindly explain to us in simple terms. (31 Jul 22)
A.
As stated in Appendix A Glossary, “GROSS WEIGHT is the total weight of the package as presented for transport.” It is the final scale weight reading. It contains the weight of the dangerous goods, and the total tare weight of the packaging material (e.g. weights of all inner packaging, all cushioning material and outer packaging).

NET WEIGHT or NET QUANTITY is also defined in Appendix A where it says: NET QUANTITY is either (a) the weight or volume of the dangerous goods contained in a package excluding the weight or volume of any packaging material, or (b) the weight of an unpackaged article of dangerous goods (e.g. UN3166 Vehicles).
