(Interpretation of GROSS WEIGHT.)
Q.
With regard to GROSS WEIGHT (capital letter “G”), does the weight on the Dangerous Goods Declaration need to exactly match the gross weight on the Master AWB? I was told that since both weights are gross, they must be exactly the same. My interpretation is that there may be some cases in which the weights may differ. Please advise.  (30 Jun 22)
A.
GROSS WEIGHT is, as quoted in DGR Appendix “A” - Glossary: “GROSS WEIGHT- The Total Weight of the packages as presented for transport.”

TACT RULES BOOK also states in Section 1.5 TERMS that: “GROSS WEIGHT is the weight of the shipment including all packing, blocking, etc. Also including weight of platforms, special bracing, etc, if required.”

As stated, GROSS WEIGHT is the total weight of the shipment and therefore the GROSS WEIGHT shown on the Dangerous Goods Declaration and the GROSS WEIGHT on the AWB should logically match. In the case of a consolidation, the GROSS WEIGHT on the House AWB would be the same as the GROSS WEIGHT on the House Shipper’s Dangerous Goods Declaration. Even for volumetric shipments, the volume weight may differ but the gross weight from the scale will still be identical.
