(A question on PI966 and PI969 of the 2022 63rd Edition DGR.)
Q.
From advance information of 2022 DGR 63rd Edition, there is a clause pertaining to PI 966 and PI969, which reads: ”The packing options in Section II have been deleted, as there is only one option available given that there is no requirement for UN specification packagings.” I took this clause as removing the Section II requirement of a 1.2m drop test but requiring the use of UN specification packagings as used for Section I. Is my interpretation correct?  (30 Sep 21)

This change was installed to clarify the packing options for PI966 and PI969 where lithium cells/batteries are packed with the equipment or devices. For Section I there are two options, which are: (1) lithium cells or batteries are packed in a UN specification packaging then placed with the equipment in a strong rigid outer packaging, or (2) lithium cells or batteries are packed with the equipment in a UN specification packaging.

The packing options in Section II have been deleted, as there is only one option available given that there is no requirement for UN specification packagings.
The change does not affect the quality of Section II packagings. The 1.2m drop test must continue to be met. UN specification packagings are not required for Section II thereby there is no packing option for Section II.
