(Selecting correct PSN for Fissile excepted Radioactive Material.)
Q.
A shipper has a shipment of “Fissile excepted” satisfying DGR 10.3.7.2 (Fissile excepted) but it is packed in a Type A package. Is it correct to assign the shipment to a PSN as “Radioactie material, Type A package, fissile excpted (UN2915)” following the footnote of a small “a” indicated in the footnote of Table 10.4.A? Or should we assign it as “UN2915 Radioactive material, Type A package” and enter the words “fissile excepted” in the Quantity & Type of Package column on the DGD like we do for Special Fom packed in Type B(U) package where the PSN do not carry the words, Special Form? Kindly advise.  (31 Dec 20)
A.
As “fissile excepted” is light type text, then as per DGR 8.1.3.1. Note 1 where it says: “Additional descriptive text shown in light characters in the List of Dangerous Goods (see Subsection 4.2) is not part of the proper shipping name but may be used in addition to the proper shipping name.” It is therefore appropriate to include it with the proper shipping name shown in bold type in DGR 4.2. The DGD would then read:

“UN2915 Radioactive material, Type A package, fissile excepted, Class 7”
