(Question on how and who must sign the Master AWB of a consolidation.)
Q.
We have a question on how and who should sign the Master AWB of a consolidated shipment. The MAWB was prepared by person “A” of our City Office. The MAWB was printed out at our Airport Office by person “B”. Is it permissible for person “B” to sign on behalf of person “A”? Failing that, is it permissible for person “B” to sign the MAWB in person A’s name? We need your advice.  (31 Dec 20)
A.
The first scenario is assuming the MAWB is printed showing the name of person “A” as the signatory. Provided person “B” is given the authority to sign outgoing documents on behalf of the company according to compay rules, person “B” may sign the MAWB for person “A”. Under a second scenario where the printed MAWB does not show any fixed signatory, person “B” may sign the document as himself. Person “B” should never impersonate person “A” and forge person A’s signature on the MAWB.
