(Question on the minimum dimensions of Lithium Battery Mark in the 62nd Edition.)
Q.
From your website, we noted in one of the changes in the forthcoming Year 2021 62nd Edition DGR that in 7.1.5.5.3 Lithium Battery Mark, a change is introduced that Lithium Battery Mark must be of a square or rectangular size with minimum dimensions of 100mm X 100mm high. Reduced size to be 100mm X 70mm high. The red and white hatchings to be 5mm in width.

We are currently using a seal of 120mm X 110mm high dimension taken from the size indicated in the previous 61st Edition DGR. We have a stock of those seals. Please advise whether we cannot use the 120mm X 110mm size marks from 1 Jan. 2021, or we would be permitted to use the former marks until a given date. Please advise.  (30 Nov 20)
A.
The contents of IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations reflect the rules adopted by the UN Subcommittee of Experts on the Transport of Dangerous Goods and therefore must be practiced effective from 1 January.

However, there is a Note following DGR 7.1.5.5 Lithium Batteries in the 62nd Edition which reads: “Note: The mark illustrated in Figure 7.1.C of the 61st Edition of these Regulations with minimum dimensions of 120 mm X 110 mm may continue to be used.”

You are therefore permitted to keep using your stock of the former dimension until your stock is depleted. Thence, please start using the new size marks. Some airlines may question you on the size of the mark, at such occasion you will refer them to the Note under 7.1.5.5 of the 62nd Edition.
