(Please explain the new rules on data loggers and cargo tracking devices used for airfreight.)
Q.
We have overheard that effective 2021, the rules for the use of data loggers and cargo tracking devices is expected to be relaxed. Kindly explain the expected details.  (31 Oct 20)
A.
Regretfully, the new rule has been shelved. The rule would have relaxed data loggers and cargo tracing devices with installed lithium batteries, attached to or placed in packages, overpacks or unit load devices not be subject to any provisions of the DGR provided certain conditions are met.

The proposal was developed and recommended by the ICAO Dangerous Gods Panel but ICAO Air Navigation Commission did not support the recommendations, so they have not been adopted. At this stage, there is no idea when or if there wil be any further discussions on what may be adopted.
