(Is it permissible to use Hazard Labels of reduced size?)
Q.
I understand that the minimum size of the hazard labels must be 100mm X 100mm. Is it possible to reduce the size of Hazard Labels, say Classes 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, etc. to 50mm X 50mm due to smaller packages? In 7.1.4.2.3, it says this is allowed for the Limited Quantity Mark. Kindly advise.  (31 Oct 20)
A.
I’m afraid you cannot reduce the size of hazard labels from the minimum requirement f 100mm X 100mm. Hazard labels are important tool to ensure safety and their size must all be the same. The only small size Marks that are permitted is the Limited Quantity Mark (Fig. 7.1.A) at 50mm X 50mm, and the Lithium Battery Mark (Fig. 7.1.C) at 105mm X 74mm reduced from its regular size 120mm x 110mm (DGR 7.1.5.5.3). With the 62nd Edition DGR from 2021, the size of the Lithium Battery Mark will be changed to 100mm X 100mm which may be reduced to 100mm X 70mm.

Per DGR 5.0.2.13.4, packages must be of such size that there is adequate space to affix all required marks and labels. (see 7.0.1 and 7.2.6.1 (e))
