(Question on the dimensions of Lithium Battery (Handling) Mark.)
Q.
The dimensions of the Lithium Battery Mark mentioned in DGR 7.1.5.5.3 and illustrated in Figure 7.1.C are set at Width 120mm and Height 100mm in both the 60th Edition and the 61st Edition DGR. When due to the size of the package, you need to reduce the dimensions of the Mark, the minimum dimensions must be Width 105mm and Height 74mm. There had been no change. Now, on page xxiii to page xxv of the 61st Edition, where you find: “Significant changes and amendments to the 61st Edition (2020)” in Appendix I, 6th bullet point, we read: “Change to the lithium battery handling mark to permit the mark to be a rectangle or square of 100mm x 100mm. The reduced size mark minimum dimensions will change to be 100mm wide x 70mm high.” Does this mean we should expect another Addendum?  (31 Mar 20)
A.
You have not read the notes carefully. The dimensions of the Lithium Battery Mark (Figure 7.1.C) has not changed in both the 60th Edition and 61st Edition DGR. The explanation for “Appendix I” shown toward the end of those pages indicate changes due for the 62nd Edition (2021) DGR. The 6th bullet point explains: “Change to the lithium battery handling mark to permit the mark to be a rectangle or square of 100mm x 100mm. The reduced size mark minimum dimensions will change to be 100mm wide x 70mm high.” These are the known changes that will happen for the 62nd Edition (2021) DGR.
