(Question on Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBC).)
Q.
In reference to the wording of DGR 7.1.5.4, since IBCs by air is for UN3077 EHS Solid only, shouldn’t the capacity be given as 450 kg (though the relative density of L and kg is 1:1)? Please advise how to explain.  (30 Nov 19)
A.
IBCs can only be used for UN3077 EHS, solid n.o.s. exceeding 400 kg but not exceeding 1,000 kg. Ocean containers are customarily measured and described by “volume capacity” therefore the tern “450 L capacity” is used to describe the IBC which require particular marking per DGR 7.1.5.4.
