(I have a question on State Variation JPG-08.)
Q.
JPG-08 reads: All the Type B(U) and Type B(M) packages and packages containing 0.1 kg or more uranium hexafluoride require both package design approvals and shipment approvals of the appropriate authorities of Japan. (see 10.5.11.2 and 10.5.11.3)

We have a shipment UN2916 CLASS 7, TYPE B(U) package, radionuclide is Ir-192.
Do we need an approval? The radionuclide is not uranium hexafluoride. I think JPG-08 says TYPE B(U) and radionuclide is 0.1 kg or more uranium hexafluroride is forbidden. Is my interpretation correct? (31 Oct 19)
A.
JPG-08 states that Japanese Government appovals are needed for:
(a) Package design approval, and
(b) Shipment approval for
(1) all Type B(U) packages containing any radioactive material, and
(2) all Type B(M) packages containing any radioactive material, and
(3) any packages containing 0.1 kg or more uranium hexafluoride.

Package design approvals must be obtained from Science and Technology Policy Bureau of Nuclear Safety Division, Ministy of Education and Science, and shipment approval must be obtained from Technology and Safety Division, Policy Bureau of Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
Approvls (a) and (b) must be obtained for packages (1), (2) and (3).
