(A question on maximum quantity per package.)
Q.
We are planning to forward by air 672 units of Automobile Airbag modules (weight 1 kg each or total 672 kg). In checking the Regulation for UN 3268 Safety device, we note that for passenger aircraft there is a limit of 25 g, and for non-passenger aircraft, the limit is 100 kg. Kindly guide us what do these limits mean. Are they the limit that an aircraft can carry or are they the limits of a package. (31 Jul 19)
A.
To transport UN3268 Safety device by air, you must first follow and satisfy all the stipulations of Packing Instruction 961. When using passenger aircraft, the net weight limit per package of the safety device is 25 kg. When using a non-passenger freighter type aircraft (CAO Cargo Aircraft Only) the package net weight limit is 100kg. Since you are shipping net weight of 672 kg, using CAO aircraft you can ship the entire weight using 7 packages. If a freighter is not operating on that route, you can ship the total quantity in 27 packages using a passenger aircraft. The net weight limts indicated in the Packing Instructions are net weight or net volume limits per package. They are not the limit loadable on a given aircraft which depends on the size and type of the aircraft equipment.

It is recommened that you take a Dangerous Goods course and acquire basic knowledge of the rules.
