(Our business of liquids is done using kilograms as a unit of measurement. We made the Declaration and package marking in kilograms and the arline rejected.)
Q.
We are in business for many years dealing UN3082 Environmentally hazardous substance, liquid, n.o.s. using kilograms as unit of measurement. We are not using litres as unit of measurement. Our business contract, the letters of credit and consequently the commercial invoice are all made out in kilograms. We made the DGD in kilograms and marked the packages in kilograms, and the airline rejected acceptance and told us to use litres as indicated in the List of Dangerous Goods (DGR 4.2). Please give us guidance.  (30 Jun 19)
A.
It is against normal practice to measure liquids in kilograms. The Declaration as well as package markings should follow the unit of measurement as indicated in DGR 4.2 List of Dangerous Goods. Due to established business practices if you need to show the quantity in kilograms to satisfy the business contract and the letter of credit, you may in addition to the quantity in litres indicate the quantity in kilograms in brackets. You may explain to the airline that for commercial reasons and to align with the letter of credit, you are obligated to show the quantity in kilograms.
