(Are the terms “House Air Waybill” and “House Waybill” the same?)
Q.
Are the terms “House Air Waybill” and “House Waybill” mean the same? Just a different expression?  (31 Jan 19)
A.
The term “House Air Waybill” is the correct term. “House Waybill” is made short and it means the same, but is not correct as nowadays we have a new term “House Sea Waybill”. Air Waybills (AWB) must be differentiated against Sea Waybills (SWB) now being used by ocean shipments on short voyages. Instead of issuing a negotiable Ocean Bill of Lading, fast container ships on short voyages, e.g., between Japan and China, container ships are using a non-negotiable House Sea Waybill (HSWB) and a non-negotiable Master Sea Waybill (MSWB) to carry consolidations by container vessels.
