(Question on Diesel Filter.)
Q.
I have two questions on Diesel.
Our client says their diesel fuel has a flash point of 96℃. I checked Google, and it says UN1202 has a flash point of 40℃, but some has 96℃ flash point. Please guide us which is correct.
If the Fuel Filter contains diesel fuel, and if the diesel fuel has a flash point equal to or below 60℃, which UN number should we use, UN1202 Diesel fuel Class 3 or UN3363 Dangerous goods in apparatus Class 9 ?  (30 Nov 18)
A.
Flash point of Diesel Oil is 45 to 80℃, whereas the flash point of Gasoline is between minus 35℃ to plus 45℃. You will need to use Table 3.3.A to determine whether the Diesel Fuel must be classified as dangerous goods or not. If the flash point is 96℃, it is not dangerous goods.

If the Diesel Fuel contained in the Diesel Filter is equal to or less than 0.5 L as indicated in PI 962, you will assign UN3363 Class 9 Dangerous goods in apparatus. If it exceeds 0.5 L, you will transport it as UN1202 Diesel fuel Class 3 PG III.

From 1 Jan. 2019 with the 60 th Edition DGR, if the net quantity of diesel fuel in the apparatus exceeds the limits of PI 962 (0.5L) but contains dangerous goods permitted as limited quantities (equal to or les than 10 L) (SP A107), it can be shipped under a new UN number, as UN3540 Articles containing flammable liquid, n.o.s.★ Class 3 but needs approval of the State of Origin and the State of the Operator (SP A2).
