(Question on devices in which Lithium ion battery Section II is installed.)
Q.
Here is a shipment of devices in which Lithium ion batteries of Section II are installed. Packaging will be PI 967 Section II. Ordinarily, the Lithium Battery Handling Mark is required on the packages. However, if the shipment consists of two packages or less, and each device in the packages contains 4 or less cells or 2 or less batteries, the Lithium Battery Handling Mark will not be required. If we add spare batteries, will the Lithium Battery Handling Mark become needed?  (30 Nov 18)
A.
Lithium batteries installed in one single device must not exceed 4 cells or 2 batteries. Cells and batteries are not to be mixed. No mention is made for spares therefore spares must not be included. One single package may contain a number of devices, say each device containing 4 cells. If you have three such devices in one package, the total count of lithium ion cells in that package will be 12. Please note that the cell or battery limitation is per device and not per package.
