（Question on “e-Bicycle” or “e-Bikes” or “e-Bike”）
Q.
A shipper brought an electric bicycle (e-Bike or e-Bicycle). Lithium ion battery is installed in the wheels. The wheels with the lithium battery installed is dismanted from the bcycle body. Please guide us in with which UN number and PSN should we use for this e-Bike shipment?

This shipment must be declared as: UN3481 Lithium ion batteries contained in equipment. In Packing Instruction PI 952 for UN3171 Battery powered equipment/vehicle, there is a Note: saying: ”As set out in SP A182 equipment powered only by lithium batteries must be classified as either UN3091 Lithium metal batteries contained in equipment or UN3481 Lithium ion batteries contained in equipment” Further, when examining SP A182, you will read: ”Equipment containing only lithium batteries must be classified as either UN3091 or UN3481”.
The shipment appears as though the e-Bike is dismantled, the battery is still installed in the wheel, therefore instead of “packed with”, it should be treated as “contained in”.
