(Why do airlines always demand for a Safety Data Sheet (SDS) ?)
Q.
Why do airlines demand for submission of a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS or SDS)? Is it true that in the past, airlines did not ask for Safety Data Sheets. Kindly clarify.  (30 Sep 18)
A.
Advancement in material technology is fast, and the consumer public is continuously demanding for devices to have higher quality. New advanced product using multiple dangerous goods appear in the market. Industry is at high pace.

Legislation is always behind. Airlines have to protect their aircraft, crew and passengers. The airlines have the last word in either accepting or rejecting the shipment. Please refer to “DGR 1.2.4 Scope” where it spells out that the airline has the “last say”. To ensure safety of their flights, they request for a proof, i.e., the SDS.

The trend of demanding more and more SDS is due to this industry advancement which legislation is always late to catch up.
