(A question on Device powered by dry batteries to be transported intentionally active during flight.)
Q.
Regarding device intentionally left active in flight mentioned in PI967 and PI970 Section II, will it also be applied to devices operated by dry batteries? Logically thinking, provided that conditions mentioned in the relevant paragraphs of PI967 and PI970 are met, such as no dangerous evolution of heat, and no disturbing signals emitted, dry battery powered devices may be left active during flight. Is my understanding correct?  (31 Jul 18)
A.
Your understanding is correct. If dry batteries are used as source of power, the same principle spelled out in PI967 and I970 would apply. As long as the dry batteries do not generate dangerous evolution of heat, the operation of the device does not emit disturbing agents such as buzzing alarms, strobe lights, etc. during transport, such devices may be transported when intentionally active. SP A123 applies for shipment of dry batteries, and dry batteries intentionally active in such devices also satisfied SP A123.
