(Please advise whether UN3373 Biological substance, Category B should be shown on the NOTOC)
Q.
This substance uses PI 650, and does not require a DGD. It is transported with an AWB only. Alike Excepted Quantities and Radioactive Material, Excepted Packages where a DGD is not required and a check list is not required at time of acceptance, can UN3373 be transported without making a NOTOC? (28 Feb 10)
A.
Whether to list a certain DG on the NOTOC or not rests at the discretion of the airline. Whether a DGD is required or not, whether a check list is required or not at acceptance do not link with the need for NOTOC. Cust Mar ly all normal dangerous goods and radioactive material would be listed on the NOTOC. Excepted Quantities and Radioactive Material, Excepted Packages are normally not listed on the NOTOC. Airlines differ with ICE. Many airlines will show ICE on the NOTOC whether the ICE is used as refrigerant for another DG, or as refrigerant for non-DG items such as meat or fish, and also for ICE in the refrigerated containers. UN3373 are normally shipped with ICE, and the quantity of ICE used is indicated on the NOTOC. If UN3373 is tendered without ICE, it will not be shown on the NOTOC. The NOTOC format itself is also up to the airlines to design. IATA Airport Handling Manual carries a sample NOTOC form, but the format itself May be designed by each airline to better fit their daily needs.
