(Can PI965 Section II be packed together with PI965 Section IA and/or Section IB ?)
Q.
I have a question in reference to the last sentence of the Note under PI 965 Section II Overpack which reads: “For shipments prepared in accordance with Section IA and/or IB, this limit of one package of Section II batteries per overpack still applies.” Can I ship on one single AWB an overpack containing one Section IA or one Section IB package and one Section II package? As only one Section II package is permitted in one AWB, and no more than one package of Section II is permitted in an overpack confuses me. Furthermore, the prohibition of PI 965 Section II to be packed in the same outer packaging with other dangerous goods adds to the confusion. If it is not permitted in APIO, it would be wise not to place them together in an overpack. Please give me guidance. (30 Jun 18)

You can place a Section IA or Section IB and one Section II PI965 in the same overpack. The statement in the DGR Note needs to be interpreted as “even if the overpack already contains batteries of Section IA and/or Section IB, the rule of packing only one Section II per overpack must be followed. The statement describes an overpack already containing Section IA and/or Section IB batteries may have additionally Section II battery enclosed but the quantity of Section II battery must not be more than one. The one battery rule for Section II must be observed at any instance, such as with an APIO.
