(Question on selection of Proper Shipping Name.)
Q.
A shipper intending to ship Sulphuric (American spelling - Sulfuric) Acid PG III submitted a Shipper’s Declaration stating UN 3264 Corrosive liquid, acidic, organic, n.o.s. (Sulfuric Acid). Since Sulfuric acid has its own UN number, I do not think the shipper can use a generic UN number like UN3264. I think if it is a mixture or solution then the shipper may use UN3264 and say “sulfuric acid solution” in brackets. I look forward to your guidance.  (31 May 18)
A.
The shipper appears to have a “sulfuric acid” shipment which has a corrosivity of PG III. He could not use UN 2796 Sulfuric acid (with 51% or less acid) nor UN 1830 Sulfuric acid (with more than 51% acid) because both of these entries are categorized as PG II. He had to use the generic PSN, UN 3264 Corrosive liquid, acid, organic, n.o.s. PG III and entered “sulfuric acid” in brackets as the substance was not a solution but a weak dilute sulfuric acid.
