(Is there a Lithium Battery shipment not requiring a Lithium Battery Handling Mark?)
Q.
Is there a PI 970 Section II Lithium Battery shipment not requiring a Lithium Battery Handling Mark? Shipment in question is an equipment where button cell is installed. Even when the mark is not needed, would the entry into the AWB be required? Reading the IATA regulations, we gather that the AWB entry is not required when the mark is not required. How should be enter the AWB? How about consolidations? Kindly guide us. (30 Apr 18)
A.
It is written in PI 970 Section II that there are two cases where the lithium battery mark is not required. One is packages containing only button cell batteries installed in equipment (including circuit boards) and the other is consignments of two packages or less where each package contains no more than four cells or two batteries installed in equipment. If there is no mark requirement, there is no need to enter the designated words on the AWB. It is advisable to enter the shipment as “Equipment with Button Cell only” on the AWB. For consolidations, enter the same wording on the HAWB, and on the Consolidation List attached to the MAWB, enter HAWB No. xxxxx Equipment with Button Cell only xxx pieces xxx kg.
