(Question on a Fibreboard Box reinforced by wood panels.)
Q.
A shipper wrote “Fibreboard Box used” on the Dangerous Goods Declaration for a fibreboard box having the two opposite shorter side-panels and the top panel made of wood. It looks like a wooden box. Shouldn’t it be declared as a wooden box? (31 Mar 18)
A.
This is an accredited fibreboard box. The DGD can be made for a fibreboard box. In DGR 6.2.12 Fibreboard Boxes giving the specifications of a fibreboard box, under 6.2.12.3 it reads: “The ends of the boxes may have a wooden frame or be entirely of wood or other suitable material. Reinforcements of wooden battens or other suitable material may be used.”
