(Please clarify our question on shipping Fire Extinguishers.)
Q.
We are exporting Fire Extinguishers containing Carbon dioxide. We do not know whether we should use UN 1044 Fire Extinguisher or UN 1013 Carbon dioxide on the Dangerous Goods Declaration. A shipment from the United States came declared as UN 1013 Carbon dioxide. Local airline says the correct proper shipping name is UN 1014 Fire Extinguishers. Please advise which is correct. (31 Mar 18)
A.
If you are shipping Carbon dioxide as raw material packed in an ordinary cylinder, the declaration must be made as UN 1013 Carbon dioxide and PI 200 must be used. If you are shipping a fire extinguisher loaded with carbon dioxide as an agent, the shipment must be declared as UN 1014 Fire Extinguisher which is the end product, and PI 213 must be used for its packaging. The shipment is not a shipment of the raw gas in a cylinder but an end product as fire extinguisher containing carbon dioxide as an agent, it must be declared as Fire Extinguisher, the end product. The shipment from the United States is in error.
