(A question of Watt-hour rating making on battery cases.)
Q.
When shipping Lithium ion batteries packed with equipment, PI 966 Section II is applied. It says: “The Watt-hour rating must be marked on the outside of the battery case except those manufactured before 1 January 2009.” Does this requirement only apply to batteries, or does it apply to cells as well? There are shippers who think it only applies to batteries however we think it is only natural that the same rule would apply to cells as well. Please give us your guidance. (31 Jul 16)

It says at the head of PI 966 Section II : “2. For batteries, Watt-hour rating is not more than 100 Wh. The Watt-hour rating must be marked on the outside of the battery case except those manufactured before 1 January 2009.” It clearly indicates that the requirement is for batteries only. There is no such mention for cells.
