(Can we pack Lithium ion and Lithium metal batteries in one package (APIO)?)
Q.
(1) Can Lithium ion batteries and Lithium metal batteries be packed together in one package (APIO)?
(2) Can an equipment containing lithium ion batteries and another equipment containing lithum metal batteries be packed together in one package (APIO)? If so, what will be the limts of the number of cells or batteries? How about the Lithium Battery Handling Label? (31 Jan 15)
A.
(1)In the latter part of SP A181, it refers to APIO of Lithium ion batteries and Lithium metal batteries. In such a case, all necessary markings required for each type of batteries must be followed.

(2) In the first part of SP A181, it refers to APIO of equipment containing Lithium ion batteries and another equipment containing Lithium metal batteries.

In PI 967 Section ll and also in PI 970 Section II, there is a provision that if the number of cells do not exceed 2 or the number of batteries do not exceed 2, the Lithium Battery Handling Label is not required, and if the Lithium Battery Handling Label is not required, there is no need to enter the 4 items on the AWB. Regardless of the type of cells or batteries the number of cells and batteries are the total number of cells and batteries in the APIO.
