(Is the signature of the Dangerous Goods Dec aration restricted to individuals who have passed IATA DG training?)
Q.
The president of our company has not taken any DG training. Can he sign the Dangerous Goods Dec aration as head of the company? (31 Mar 10)
A.
Of course, he can. The Dangerous Goods Dec aration is an official document and it is subject to penalty if there is any breach. It is a very important document and therefore it is only natural that a person who can take responsibility in the organization would sign the document. It will be ideal if that responsible person have taken a DG course, but such will probably be a remote case in Japan. In actual practice, the DGD would be completed by a qualified person who had taken and passed the IATA DG course, and thence the document is presented to a higher echelon for signature. The company can designate and authorize certain individuals of certain ranks to sign the DGD. The person preparing the DGD and the person signing the DGD both must understand and realize that the DGD is an important official document and must be treated as such.
