(Clarification required on UN 3316 Chemical Kit.)
Q.
An assembly of chemical substances used for medical research contains UN 1805 Class 8 PG III 20mL and UN 3077 Class 9 PG III 0.5mL. How can we send this kit by air? Please guide us on the conditions to follow.  (31 Jul 14)
A.
In order to assign UN 3316 Chemical Kit, only substances that satisfy SP A44 and SP A163 may be included in the kit. The purpose of the kit being for medical research does not qualify the assignment of UN 3316 Chemical Kit. Furthermore, the conditions spelled out in PI 960 or PI Y960 must also be satisfied.

Since both UN 1805 Class 8 PG III 20mL and UN 3077 Class 9 PG III 0.5mL can be transported under the provisions of Excepted Quantity, both substances are qualified to be included in UN 3316 Chemical Kit. As said, one must satisfy SP A44 and SP A163, as well as the conditions of PI 960 or PI Y960 to allow the kit to be declared as UN 3316 Chemical Kit. It is not an automatic assignment by purpose.
