This is a question pertaining to SP A183. If batteries are removed from the aircraft for repair or recharging, are they considered as “recycle” and transportation must be authorized by governmental approval? (28 Feb 14)
A.
Repair or recharging are not “recycling”. SP A183 refers only to “recycling” or “disposal” of waste batteries. Recycling means disassembling and cannibalizing of useable parts such like rare metals for use in producing other objects. SP A183 also covers waste batteries.
