(Is AED allowed for carriage as passenger carry-on baggage?)
Q.
Can we allow a passenger to hand carry AED (Automated External Defibrillator) equipped with Lithium metal batteries (6.28 gram lithium contents)? How many spare batteries can be allowed? (31 Aug 13)
A.
If the battery equipped to the AED is limited to 8 grams lithium content for lithium metal batteries, and if the battery equipped is limited to 160Wh for lithium ion batteries, such AED can be carried either as checked baggage or carry-on baggage. No more that 2 spare batteries can be carried only as carry-on baggage. All the batteries must have passed the UN Manual of Tests and Criteria.
