(What does the third letter in the ULD identification code represent?)
Q.
I am aware that the first letter of the ULD identification code represent whether the ULD has an airworthyness certificate or not, and the second letter indicates the size of the base which would correspond to the aircraft restraint system, however, I am not too sure about the third letter. Kindly advise? (30 Apr 13)
A.
The third letter of the ULD identification code indicates the CONTOUR (shape – external appearance) of the ULD. It would match the inner contour of the aircraft hull.. For details, please refer to the 2013 Edition of the IATA ULD Regulations Manual.
