(Are speakers magnetized material?)
Q.
Are speakers magnetized material? (30 Jun 10)
A.
A speaker is equipped with magnets.

It would not be a mistake to state that speakers are generally magnetized material, but it is necessary to check against the criteria mentioned in DGR 3.9.2.2 and also Packing Instruction 902 to ascertain whether the speaker in question is to be categorized as magnetized material or not.

Freight forwarders and airlines do not have the equipment to measure magnetic strength nor they have the experience to measure such. It is therefore advisable to check the MSDS or inquire the manufacturer for the magnetic strength of the object. Speakers would not fall under baggage as they are not an item to be used by a passenger for his trip. They are to be shipped as cargo and the owner must Dec are whether it is dangerous or not.
