(Question in reference to equipment and parts within an aircraft fuel tank)
Q.
In reference to equipment and parts within an aircraft fuel tank, please guide us whether we can classify the following as being ?gNot Restricted?h.

We have attempted to categorize the equipment as shown below:

(a) It is difficult to empty the remaining fuel from the equipment, thence, PI 916 (b) will apply.
(b) It is easy to empty the remaining fuel from the equipment, and it is easy to ascertain whether there is any more fuel left such as in the case of sensors and tank units, SP A107 will apply and will be categorized as being ?gNot Restricted?h.
(c) Items such as tubes and duct wires where remaining fuel would not normally exist, SP A107 would apply and will be categorized as being ?gNot Restricted?h. There May be a slight smell which will be prevented by packaging to sustain the smell. (31 Jul 2010) (31 Jul 10)
A.
SP A107 is not an exemption clause. It is a definition of UN3363 Dangerous goods in apparatus/machinery.

As long as there is no proof that no fuel is remaining, the item must be categorized as UN3363 and must be handled as dangerous goods. In the case of (c ), if the item is as per your explanation, it May be treated as ?gNot Restricted?h.
