( Do we have to write OVERPACK and reproduce all the UN Mar ings and labels on the surface when it bacame invisible on overpacked drums?)
Q.
We intend to overpack 10 drums each containing UN 1263 Paint, Class 3, PG III, but the UN specification Mar ing is shown on the top of the drums. We want to sandwich the drums with plywood thence the UN specification Mar ing would become invisible.

Do we then have to write OVERPACK and reproduce all the Mar ings and labels on the surface of the overpack?

It is quite irregular that the UN specification Mar ing is at the top of the drum.

As a common practice, such UN spec Mar ing would normally be applied to the body of the drum. Since the UN spec Mar ing is at the top of the drum, sandwiching the drum with plywood would make the UN spec Mar ing not visible. You will need to write OVERPACK on the overpack.

If the other Mar ings, i.e., name/address of the shipper/consignee, UN numbers/PSNs, and the hazard labels are visible from the outside, there is no need to reproduce them on the overpack. You will need to reproduce only those information that are not visible from the outside. Depending on the airline, they May request otherwise. It is up to the airline to have their own procedures, so you will need to follow their instructions, if so advised. As a basic rule, you need not reproduce what can be seen from the outside.
