A.
Dry Ice May be shipped as refrigerant for dangerous goods, as refrigerant for non-dangerous goods (e.g. meat, fish, etc), and as dry ice by itself. When shipping only Dry Ice as cargo, assignment will be UN1845 Carbon dioxide, solid or UN1845 Dry Ice, Class 9, PG III and the applicable Packing Instruction is 904 with a maximum allowable quantity per outer package of 200kg. The author have personally experienced shipping Dry Ice as cargo to isolated places in China where there was no Dry Ice factory. These Dry Ice was to be used as refrigerant for fish that was being exported from China to Japan. Dry Ice cannot be accommodated under the provision of Excepted Quantity. The blue page indicates E0 for the EQ code which means it is not permitted as Excepted Quantity. ?kDGR 2.7.2.2 (h); DGR 4.2 and Table 2.7.A?l Dry Ice as itself cannot be accommodated under the provision of Limited Quantity as per DGR 2.8.2.2 (j). However per DGR 5.0.3.2 (c), only when Dry Ice is used as refrigerant for another dangerous goods it can be accommodated in a LTD QTY package.
