(Handling of OVERPACK containing Limited Quantity packages.)
Q.
We have a question on how to make the Shipper’s Declaration of Dangerous Goods for an OVERPACK containing Limited Quantity packages.

The shipment in question is UN1950 Aerosols,flammable Div. 2.1 PI Y203 (4 fiberboard boxes X 10kg G).
We wish to use a pallet to OVERPACK these 4 Limited Quantity packages into one unit to simplify the shipment. We have drafted our intent in the below shown wording which we would appreciate if you would kindly verify.

4 Fibreboard boxes X 10kg G
OVERPACK USED
Total Gross Weight 40kg G
Kindly advise.  (30 Apr 23)

Your draft is correct.

The airline may refer to DGR 2.7.4.2 which states: “The gross weight of a “Limited Quantity” package must not exceed 30 kg.” and reject the shipment. You will need to explain that each individual LTD QTY package is 10 kg G within the 30kg G limits, and furthermore DGR 2.7.4.2 is not directed to OVERPACK weight limits but to individual package limits. Each individual packages conforms to the conditions of PI Y203 and the quality of the OVERPACK used are strong enough for the intended transportation.
